No precise location: the app never asks for your position. Maps show court locations from our registry and, for the area you are viewing, soccer fields from Apple Maps. To do that, the app sends Apple the map area on screen (and your home city's name, to centre the map on it); it never sends your name, phone number or other account details. Distances are measured from your city's centre, not from you. No contacts, no photos or videos other than the profile photo, court photos and any game footage you choose to upload, no advertising identifier, and no tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
To run the app: match you with games in your city, let squads chat, show ratings on player cards, keep the community safe, and contact you about your account. We use analytics only to understand and improve the app. Game footage is used to analyse that game and to develop and improve ParaBola's stats models; people at ParaBola may watch it for that purpose. Removing a video stops any further use of it, but doesn't undo analysis already done or the models improved by it. We don't sell your data or use it for ads.
Your name, @handle, profile photo, position and city, the rosters of games (who is playing, where and when) and comments on games are public: anyone can see them in the app or through our website's public API, including people without an account. Squad chat and direct messages are visible only to their members. Your phone number and email are never shown.
Ratings and feedback: once you have 3 or more ratings, your average star rating and the number of ratings show on your player card. Individual ratings, and who gave them, are never shown. A written note is shown only to the player it is about, and never with the author's name. If that player reports the note, our moderators see the note and who wrote it, and the author can no longer rate or leave notes for that player.
Game history: the games you have played are visible to other signed-in players unless you turn off Show my game history in the Me tab → Settings (gear icon). Players you have blocked, or who have blocked you, never see it.
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to count how the app is used. It receives in-app events (such as opening the app, finishing sign-up, or joining, hosting or leaving a game, with the game, court and city involved), an app-instance identifier, device model, OS and app version, and approximate location derived from your IP address. We build it without Apple's advertising identifier, do not link it to your phone number or name, do not use it for advertising and do not share it with ad networks. Google keeps it for no longer than 14 months. You can turn it off any time in the Me tab → Settings (gear icon) → Share usage analytics; once off, the app sends no further analytics events.
We use these companies to run the app. Each receives only what it needs for its job:
Each provider is bound by contract and its own terms to protect your data with the same or equal protection as this policy and the App Store Review Guidelines require, and may use it only to provide its service to us.
Edit your profile, or add, change or remove your profile photo, in the Me tab. A removed photo is deleted from storage, as it is when you delete your account. Turn off usage analytics or game history visibility in the Me tab → Settings (gear icon). Block or report players, messages and feedback notes from the app. Remove footage you sent from the game page; the file is deleted, but analysis already done with it, and the models improved by it, are not undone. Game footage is kept for up to 12 months and then deleted; to have footage of you removed sooner, including footage someone else uploaded, email pavelpiere@gmail.com with the game and date. Ratings and notes are kept while both accounts and the game exist; a game is removed, with its chat and ratings, if its host deletes their account. Delete your account from the Me tab → Settings (gear icon); your data, including ratings and notes you gave or received, is removed within 30 days, except app feedback you sent, which is kept but no longer linked to you. If you delete your account, we also keep a one-way coded version of your phone number: for up to 7 days with the times of games you hosted, cancelled or left in that period, only to stop the hosting and leaving limits being reset by signing up again, and for up to 30 days with your @handle, only so that your number, and nobody else, can take that @handle back; it can't be turned back into your number without a secret key that only our server holds, it is used for nothing else, and it is deleted when those periods end. Email pavelpiere@gmail.com for a copy of your data.
The app is not for children under 13.
We'll post updates here and notify you in the app when they matter.
